Lift: The Power of Service

Our own soul is healed as we reach outward and lift others.

See how this happened with an inspiring group of men who serve their neighbor every night with no end in sight.

Do Your Little Bit to Uplift the World

Just think how much difference we could make if we all reached out a little more and tried to lift our fellow-beings. Please, think of a way to help someone today and tell us about it in the comments :-)

True Beauty

These women say it all:

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”
― Mother Teresa

I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car wearing beautifully tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiled, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.

The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

4 Noble Reasons to Buy from and Donate to Thrift Stores

http://www.domesticabusecouncil.com/thrift-store.htm
The reason most people think of for shopping at thrift stores is to save money on things you need. Also, you can claim the value of any items you donate when you file your taxes. These are great reasons, but there are additional noble reasons to support these stores.

First, most thrift stores support other causes such as feeding families in need, helping them get suitable housing, helping with domestic abuse issues, etc. When you buy from or donate to these thrift stores you are also supporting these causes.

Next, many thrift stores train people in need to improve their job skills and help them prepare to find better jobs. By supporting the thrift stores you are helping these people support their families, improve their skills and confidence, and improve their lives.

Third, thrift stores reduce the waste in the earth by helping us reuse items, decreasing the amount of waste on the earth, as well as decreasing the pollutants and energy used in creating new products. The more you can avoid buying new items, the more you will help keep the earth clean and healthy.

Last, consider all the people who could be blessed by the things taking up space in your home that you don't currently need. Visualize your home without all the clutter, where you know everything you have and right where it is, where even your closets look clean, attractive, and organized. If you can go through all your stuff and only keep what you use, need, or love, then you're home will be a more peaceful place, you'll have more space, your mind will be more clear and at ease, and you will have less things to take care of, clean, store, move, etc.

So go thrifting and donating my friends, and enjoy the peace of mind and joy you feel from supporting great causes, blessing people's lives, keeping the earth healthy, and decluttering your home.
